  • Rita’rded Reporting. 2005-09-25. The level of absurdity in the news media is approaching mind-numbing proportions. I saw one reporter holding up a busted-up streetlight and talking at great length about how it had come hurtling down in front of them. Last night there was some “new video” of the aftermath of Rita being shown (on several competing news channels simultaneously).

  • Reason Prevails In Prague. 2006-08-24. I, for one, am glad they kicked Pluto out of the Solar System, rather than re-defining the planets to include it. The last thing our Solar System needs is a tenth planet named after Xena, Warrior Princess.

  • New Lease On Life For Hubble. 2006-10-31. I’m heartened to see NASA announce plans to repair the Hubble telescope. Granted, it only extends the lifetime from 2009 to 2013, but since we have shuttle flights going up there anyway and we have the capability to fix it, I don’t see why we shouldn’t keep it running as long as possible. (Personally, I’d place a higher priority on the telescope than the space station, but that’s just me.)

  • Oh My, A Chinese Satellite Killer. 2007-01-19. Wow, I just saw this: U.S. official: Chinese test missile obliterates satellite. That’s some scary stuff right there. The only consolation is that it only has a 25% success rate so far.

  • Iranian Test Missile. 2008-02-10. I heard about this alarming story in passing on WRVA the other day, so I did a little digging to find out what really happened. As far as I know, this story was wholly ignored by American media in the face of Super Tuesday.
